According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Glasgow Rangers are interested in signing Nimes midfielder Zinedine Ferhat.
The Lowdown: Gers eye transfers
Rangers are planning ahead for the new season. They have already captured the services of Fashion Sakala (rangers.co.uk), for example, while Nnamdi Ofoborh will join up with the 55-time Scottish champions after putting pen to paper earlier this year.
Other signings are likely to be targetted, though, as Steven Gerrard and co prepare for a potential Champions League run which will present new challenges while they try to defend their Premiership crown.
The Latest: Ferhat on the radar
As such, they are believed to eyeing Ferhat from Ligue 1 side Nimes.
He is under contract until June 2022 (Transfermarkt), and is attracting interest from the Gers. Saint-Etienne, Sassuolo and an unnamed top French side are also said to be in pursuit.
The Verdict: Ambitious
This is no doubt an ambitious move from the Gers. For a start, he is valued at £7.2m (Transfermarkt) and, given the number of clubs interested, Nimes could guarantee a hefty sum if a bidding war were to develop – the Gers are unlikely to be able to go too much higher than that market value.
He has enjoyed an impressive campaign in the French top tier as well, managing six goals and 10 assists even though his current side are 19th in the table.
In fact, he has created more goals than Paris-Saint Germain pair Neymar and Kylian Mbappe this campaign in the league (WhoScored). At 28, he may just be entering his prime – if Ross Wilson and co were able to convince him to move to Ibrox, it could be a signing that would delight the Gers supporters.
In other news, Rangers have been urged to sign this right-back.
