Shaw broke her foot during City's clash with West Ham last month and has now gone under the knife. The Jamaica international had been in red-hot form for the Cityzens, scoring 21 times in just 18 games, as the club continue to battle Chelsea for the Women's Super League title.

City are locked in a pitched battle at the top of the WSL table, with the season reaching its climax. Shaw's side are top with 52 points, while Chelsea are six points behind in second, with two games in hand. City have just two more games to play but will have to keep winning without the prolific striker.

Shaw wrote on Instagram: "Gutted to know I suffered a broken foot in the game against West Ham but grateful the surgery went well. The greatest story are those who define all odds. Thanks to everyone for the heart warming well wishes on my road to recovery. I appreciate every single one. I will continue working hard off the pitch during my rehab and I can’t wait to be back doing what I love."
