According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are interested in launching a move to sign West Ham United attacker Marko Arnautovic at the end of the season.
What’s the word?
As per the aforementioned report, the Red Devils will not consider moving for the Austrian striker in January, but Jose Mourinho could potentially attempt to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.
United’s current No.9, Romelu Lukaku, has been in poor form this season, and has failed to hit the back of the net in his last 11 games for United.
Which team is the dominant force in London right now? Playmaker FC’s Tom Skinner has a very unpopular opinion on the matter. Check it out in the video below…
Mourinho may very well be targeting a new goalscorer to lead the line for his team. Arnautovic ought not to be that man though.
Far from the required standard
United’s current task of rising back to the top of English football and overhauling their bitter rivals, Manchester City, is a massive one – especially from their current league position of seventh. To achieve this goal, United must build a squad in the image of City’s; young, exciting, hungry and improving.
The Hammers’ 29-year-old forward is not young, and likely has very little improving left to do. What’s more, his greatest career goals return of 12 goals from 40 appearances (with Stoke City, 2015/16) does not suggest that Arnautovic is the prolific, elite-level striker United need to restore their dominant status.
A club of United’s stature must set their sights higher than the 77-cap Austria international who is an effective Premier League attacker, but far from the standard required at Old Trafford.
