Guardiola appears to have changed his stance on a potential return to Barcelona, having built one of the greatest club sides ever seen between 2008 and 2012, as he now claims that he has no intention of heading back to Camp Nou. In 2023, though, he claimed he would head back "for free" but that no longer appears to be the case.

Guardiola left in 2012 to embark on a sabbatical, having been burned out by the consistent pressure of managing one of the biggest clubs in the world. He landed at Bayern Munich and, of course, then headed to Manchester, where he remains. He has been in charge since 2016 but has previously hinted he could leave in 2025.

Speaking at a Legends Trophy press event, Guardiola was asked if the door was closed when it came to a return to Barcelona, and he replied: "Yes, it is closed."
