According to Football Insider, Southampton have made a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker-Peters on loan before Thursday’s deadline, which suggests that Cedric Soares might yet be on his way.
What’s the word, then?
Well, Football Insider report that Saints are in the market for a new right-back before the window slams shut ahead of the new Premier League season, and that they have identified the 22-year-old as their top target.
Football Insider say that a source from the south coast outfit has told them that Spurs are open to a loan exit for their academy product, despite losing Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid this summer.

The report adds that Mauricio Pochettino would be willing to let Walker-Peters go before 5pm tomorrow, but only if the north London side sign a right-back themselves first.
Cedric on his way?
The link to Walker-Peters is confusing in a way from Southampton’s point of view, seeing as they currently have Yan Valery and Cedric vying for the right-back spot.

The former established himself as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first choice in 2019 with the latter spending the second half of last season on loan with Inter Milan, and he was included in a report of players that Saints were willing to listen to offers for by The Telegraph when a deal for Che Adams was agreed in June.
However, no exit has been forthcoming and the Portugal international has actually been reintegrated into the first-team squad, getting his fair share of pre-season action on the pitch.
It has been Valery that has often got the nod from the start though – including in the wins against Feyenoord and Cologne – which suggests that Cedric would only be back-up again under the Austrian manager this term.
As an experienced 27-year-old that may not be a favourable scenario for him, and the latest interest in Walker-Peters could well be an indication that other clubs are ready to make a late move for the Euro 2016 winner’s services.
Southampton have absolutely no need for three right-back options, especially when Walker-Peters will surely expect to be starting regularly, so this is certainly one to watch.
